I want to look at componding in Dagbani. I tried entering the data and sometimes I find it difficult segmenting the morphemes. For instance, chechebara can be segmented as
cheche + ba+ ra.
bicycle ride AGENTIVE MARKER.SG
bicycle rider
In a sentence like
O ba cheche.
3SG.SBJ ride-PAST bicle-OBJ
S/he rode a bicycle.
I can form a compound out of the VP 'cheche 'bicycle' and verb ba 'ride' later I add the agentive marker '-ra' to form chechebara' bicycle rider.
We also have NN compounds like
daabia 'trader' is consist of
da-a + bi-a
market-SG child-SG trader
na-a + bi-a => nabia
chief-SG child prince
We also have VV compounds
kpi + yi => kpiinyi
die go out walking dead
Here the vowel in the compound is doubled and epenthetic nasal is inserted.
