(1a) shows a deverbal nominal derived by the prefix a-. I am not so sure that I understand what you mean by a- stands for AGENT. In the translational gloss for (1b) it says that the meaning of the derived noun is beloved. Wouldn't the thematic role of the beloved rather be the Patient? I assume that Mary is the Patient in the sentence: John loves Mary? --Dorothee Beermann 20:58, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
The gloss for (1b) renders a- as a perfective marker. Hm... --Dorothee Beermann 21:14, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
