I am an associate professor in linguistics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. I work in digital and theoretical linguistics where I am active in the development of techniques and methodologies to facilitate language description and analysis. My fields of interest are morpho-syntax and lexical semantics. I teach constraint-based grammars, mainly Lexical Functional Grammar and linguistic methodology suitable for data-driven approaches to linguistics description and documentation.

Together with Pavel Mihaylov I have developed TypeCraft.

More about my research and teaching you find on my homepage. Recently I have joined the Department of Modern Foreign Languages.

I try to spend as much time as possible with research and projects relating to TypeCraft. I enjoy multi-lingual approaches to linguistics and work in particular on the Kwa-languages of West Africa, and on the Bantu language Ruyankore-Rukiga spoken in Uganda.

A productive way to work together with other linguists on language projects is to create an annotation project on TypeCraft. Evaluating annotated texts in groups for example by discussing alternative glossing possibilities, makes linguistic work fairly concrete. The discovery of 'new' or 'unexpected uses' of familiar pattern is one of the bonuses that makes this kind of 'hands-on' linguistics fun.
